Living Writerly Lives

Say, “Some kids think, ‘Oh my life is so boring. I have nothing exciting to write about.’ That is NOT TRUE. Your life is very important. You matter. The things that have happened in your life matter. Your hobbies and your passions matter.”

Teach students that writers realize there are stories and topics they are passionate about hidden throughout every single day, they just need to take the time to notice!

Say, “You all have writer’s notebooks and I want you to keep them with you at all times. This is why…you never know when a story idea will pop up.”

Show the video either before or after your lesson. Allow students time to talk and then list ideas they could write about, topics they are passionate, favorite memories, favorite movies, best friends and memories with them, favorite video games and the list goes on!
