Revising is taking out all the parts of a story that don’t matter or propel the story forward. So much of writing is crossing words out. This is why it is so important to draft pages and pages first.
Revising is also changing where punctuation goes, how long sentences are and just making things sound smooth and descriptive.
Revising is thinking about your audience A LOT.
Here are five steps to help you revise:
- Reread
- Cross parts out that don’t propel the story forward
- Add verbs and sensory words so your audience has a movie in their mind
- Change how long sentences are
- Repeat from step 1
